Cat + Josh | Cowararmup

There’s something extra special about those loosey goosey DIY weddings.

Cat and Josh’s original plans were to have their ceremony on a friend’s farm, and their reception at Cowaramup Hall, but with guest numbers growing – and they knew they wanted to party real late – so they made the call to have their wedding at The Family Retreat just up the road in Metricup.

We scouted an awesome shaded forest clearing for their ceremony, and they transformed the venue with lights and a years worth of op shop finds for their styling and decorations.

Seeing how tight Cat’s family were was incredible. Her parents and brothers spent the month before their wedding travelling over from South Oz, camping along the way and spending heaps of time in the region. The close bond between Cat and her brothers is amazing, and having them in her bridal party was sweet. So many hugs!

Cat got ready in her own house too. It’s so good having your own stuff around, including your chickens! Shooting family photos on the front lawn was awesome.

Cat wore boots all day, and her bridesmaids rocked Blundstones. Josh was particularly stoked with his jacket – another op shop find. Comfort is king!

Cat’s bro Matt played guitar and bridesmaids Bonnie and Soph sang as they walked down the aisle for the ceremony. Having a friend as a celebrant is an extra special touch, and Sinead Fellows delivered a beautiful ceremony – it was absolutely perfect and I couldn’t believe this was her first wedding.

A champagne bar set up in the forest kicked off celebrations afterwards.

Blue Child Collective brought the live tunes and they cranked til real late.
